Where Do You Want To Be One Year From Now?

It´s my birthday today and that leads me to wondering where I will be one year from now. And more important: where do I WANT to be?

Where do you want to be one year from now and how do you plan to get there?

This is one of the first questions I ask potential partners. You would be surprised how many people can not give an accurate answer to this question.

I have heard answers lik:

“I don´t know. Travel a bit, just live my life and be happy.”

“I will graduate in eight months and maybe become a lawyer or something like that.”

“I will probably be working.”

“Ummm, that´s a difficult question. How about you?”

You can tell without knowing anything else about these people that they will be going nowhere within the next twelve months. If they can´t even plan ahead a year how do they plan on managing their lives? Don´t they want to be rich and successful?

I am still waiting for someone to give me an accurate answer about their goals and their plan on how to get there.

An accurate answer would be more like: “I plan to study every day for an hour to graduate in six months. I will also work on my digital marketing skills by booking an online course and read at least one book a month. I plan to work at X company for three years to gain work experience before I start my own business in X niche at age 30.”

Specific goals and specific steps to reach that goal.

I have several specific goals I want to achieve. One of them is to gain 15 pounds of lean muscle mass until my birthday next year. My plan to achieve this goal includes working out 6 days a week, getting one gram of protein per pound of bodyweight and eating 300 calories over maintenance daily.

I have not only planned what I want to achieve in one year but also what I want to achieve during the next FIVE years!

Do you know anyone with a goal that takes five years to achieve and an actual step-by-step plan on how to do it? I don´t.

I guess I just spend too much time working on my goals and not enough time around people without ambitions. Very sad.

Most people only have wishes without a time limit or any idea how to get where they want to be. They dream about a mansion at the beach or a really expensive car to impress their neighbors. All while simultaneously thinking that they will never achieve that.

Everybody has dreams, hopes and wishes. But only very, very few people will ever take concrete measures to actually achieve them.

Because society is fucked up and punishes everyone who dares to leave his predetermined path. It takes courage and resilience to failure to get there. Discipline is a rare trait these days.

Another excuse I often hear is that people don´t know HOW to achieve their goals. But if they were serious about it they would stop wasting their time by complaining and start doing research. Their so called problems are all self-made.

Your plan on how to get where you want to be one year from now doesn´t have to  be complicated. If your goal is complicated your plan can be, too. But a simple plan is easier to stick to. Keep it simple and stupid if you want success.

Produce one video every other day and get your first 10.000 subscribers on YouTube.

Eat a lot of food and work out daily to gain muscle.

Practice your skill for one hour every day to achieve mastery.

Stop spending money on useless gadgets to accumulate riches.

Simple, stupid, achievable. But still more than 95% of people even think about.

Where do you want to be 365 days from now, fellow superhero? Do you want to be at the same place you are right now or do you want to become better, wealthier, leaner? It´s your choice. It always was.
